All our team come from a maritime aviation background and together they have over 60 years of experience in operating and managing helicopter landing areas and lift systems. It is this experience that enables them to provide consultancy and assurance on the design and structure of vertiport landing areas so that they will meet the new standards and certifications once they have been specified. Our expert team is consulting with the CAA to help with the development of these new certification standards.
Steve is a Principal Engineer and a Director of Safeguard Vertiports. He has 33 years’ experience in Safety Engineering having spent 22 years in the Royal Navy as a Marine Engineer and a further 15 as a Safety Engineering Consultant in Industry. Steve is a Lead Inspector for Safeguard Vertiports and has an extensive knowledge and working experience of Vertiport and Helideck facilities and arrangements for both Helicopter and Drone operations.
Steve is an established safety case author and Independent Safety Auditor. He is the current ISA for the Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers HMS Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales.
Chris is Safeguard Vertiports’ Operations Manager and has 20 years of maritime aviation experience, 15 years in the Royal Navy as Aircrew and 5 years working within the commercial aviation industry.
During his time in the military he served on HMS Ocean, RFA Argus, HNLMS Rotterdam and HMS Illustrious. In 2010 Chris gained his Aircrew Wings and was qualified Aircrew onboard the Merlin EH101 Mk1.
In 2016 Chris was instrumental in starting Safeguard Helidecks, a division of Safeguard Engineering that specialises in superyacht helidecks. Chris has helped to grow the business over the past 5 years and has been lucky enough to certify some of the world’s largest superyachts. He has also been involved in numerous helideck design projects advising on the commercial aviation arrangements.
Chris has always been interested in the future developments within aviation and was invited to speak with Urban-Air Port on the design of future Vertiports and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. With his past experience in aviation and certification, Chris brings his experience and enthusiasm for aviation to Safeguard Vertiports.
Chris is a Lead Certification Officer and has 24 years operational aviation and management experience within the Royal Navy.
A highly experienced ex-Royal Navy Aviation Officer, with time spent as a Maritime Aviation Certification Officer for the Military Aviation Authority (MAA). Providing aviation expertise to support the Ships OC in delivering operational performance standards and optimising platform availability and capability.
As a Flight Deck Officer on military platforms, he was responsible for the safe conduct of all operations and aircraft on the flight deck, ensuring the expeditious movement and launch of aircraft to meet ship and squadron operational requirements.
Since leaving the Royal Navy Chris has worked with Safeguard Helidecks and Safeguard Vertiports. Advising on numerous design specifications for Superyachts, whilst also certifying some of the newest concept platforms within the industry.
Lee is an experienced Certification Officer. He has 18 years’ experience in Maritime Aviation, 15 years as a Helicopter Engineer and Helicopter Aircrew in the Royal Navy and 3 years’ experience working within industry.
Lee worked as a Helicopter Engineer operating from multiple flight decks of Royal Navy warships, notably from large multi spot ships to small single spot flight decks. In 2010 Lee retrained in the Royal Navy and earned his Flying Wings operating as part of a four-man crew flying the Merlin EH101 Mk1 and Mk2 helicopter.
Lee has worked on and operated from numerous military and non-military flight decks around the world in multiple environments over the last 18 years.
Since leaving the Royal Navy Lee has worked with Safeguard Helidecks and Safeguard Vertiports to assess and certify the safe operation of landing areas.
